There’s a misconception about cats that they are a little aloof, independent and therefore very able to look after themselves. True, many cats do have an inherent ability to care for themselves, however all cats are domestic animals and so there will always be some degree of reliance on their owners. As evidence for this, here are 5 facts about a cat’s welfare.
All pets feel pain. Pain might be emotional or physical, such as with humans. Because cats can’t talk, however, it can be difficult to ascertain the cause of pain, and so if you suspect your cat is in pain you should consult your vet.
Whilst there are a wide range of diseases which can affect cats, the leading cause of cat death is road traffic accidents.
If a female cat is not neutered then it can be exposed to a range of diseases, such as cervical cancer. It may also become disruptive as it goes “on heat.”
A little like dogs, where certain characteristics have been bred for this can have negative implications for the cat, in terms of its health.
Pet food is an important aspect of a cats overall health and these days you can get food that is tailored to a cat’s specific needs, for instance if it’s an older cat you might choose a food rich in potassium and taurine.
