THE CAT NOVICE
I never had a cat or dog when I was growing up nor as an adult.
When my niece was twelve, her family adopted a cat from a shelter.
Charlie is a beautiful black cat. He is very gentle, loving and social.
The first time my husband and I were asked to watch Charlie at our house was initially quite an experience for me. When I saw him on our very light colored rugs, he looked as big as a panther to me. His really stood out on that white rug!
As I mentioned, I had never had a cat before, so I was a little frightened of him.
Stupidly, I asked my husband to shut the bedroom door and put a chair up against it.
Crazy, I know!
Well after a short time, I realized how Charlie is so very lovable.
Now, when we watch him, I can’t wait for him to get in our bed. When he looks at me with those big eyes, I tell him that I love him. Then I get tears in my eyes.
It is very touching that when we come in from the garage, Charlie is at the door waiting for us. It also amazes me that he will reach up and try to turn the knob on the basement door so he can go downstairs.
I realize that for an experienced cat owner, these things are nothing new or very notable.
I feel embarrassed when I think back to when I questioned what people see in cats.
Now I know and it didn’t take me too long to learn. Did I mention I am 75 Years old?
